When it hits the fan around here, there is a pattern developing. Obama's minions trot out and do the trial balloon thing, and then a few days later, the President finally comes out and speaks. This happened on the campaign trail with a number of issues, most notably the collapse of Lehman Brothers. It's happened on a number of issues this year, prominently the post "election" riots in Iran, the Fort Hood shootings and now, the attempted terror bombing of a Detroit bound airliner. This time gap was brought up to him by the press this week, and he bristled about not speaking until he had all the facts. This White House needs three days to brief the President? Or, like his predecessors, he gets a full skinny by first light and then needs two more days to think it over?
Thank God, though. He came out after a few days and assured us that the government was on top of it all. Really?
So this Nigerian loser manages to get on an American bound plane with no passport. He paid in cash, bought a one way ticket and was travelling alone. I don't care what watch list he was or wasn't on, if nobody flags him after that, you shouldn't go near the TSA. The cash thing I can deal with- there aren't a lot of credit cards in Nigeria. No ID? Are you kidding me?
Wait, it gets better. Janet Napolitano comes out on day one (while her boss is still contemplating) and announces this is an isolated incident. Within one news cycle, the press has enough to roll with A) his father warning our embassy about his son's radical habits, B) the son's announcement that he was working for Al-Queda and C) Al-Queda in Yemen taking credit for it all. Who is briefing the head of Homeland Security? Maybe the President needed more time because his Cabinet was feeding him ignorance.
The plot thickens from there, too. Mr. bomber is in a fed facility in Michgan. There are government officials in Yemen announcing that more plots are in the offing. Do we interrogate him? No, he gets his Mirandas and is allowed to lawyer up. All we are going to get out of him is more pronouncements. We're going to charge him criminally! Welcome to the new world.
So Hillary was right on this one. If this President gets a call at 3AM, he will be sure to protect our interests.... in a couple of days.
We need time to THINK. We have to be sure. I'm sure that, if it is a terrorist incident, the bad guys will show their gratitude for our willingness to engage with them and stand down for 48 hours, while he thinks about it.
You can't make this stuff up, folks. He is that bad. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
